Question and Answer Session

For our Q&A session, our current members submit questions to ask the member of the month. They are a mix of business, personal and random questions.

WBPA: What do you like to do in your spare time?

Barb Garst:  “My favorite pastime is spending time with my grandsons! I also love to read!”

WBPA: Have you always lived in the Walkersville area?

Barb Garst:  “Yes! I was born in Frederick County and have enjoyed living in a few areas in the county. My parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and other family members also live in the area. I attended Walkersville schools, but eventually graduated from Linganore.”

WBPA: What is your favorite hobby?

Barb Garst:  “I enjoy “trying to bowl” in Walkersville. I’ve been a member of a league for many years.”

WBPA: What do you like most about your job?

Barb Garst:  “I enjoy my clients! At Woodsboro Bank, through conversations, we always find common ground to build a relationship. I love that our culture at the Bank is to be client devoted, community focused and excellence driven.”

WBPA: What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?

Barb Garst:  “I started my career at Woodsboro Bank as a part-time Teller. I am proud to have come a long way in my career! Currently in my career, I manage the Main Office in Woodsboro..”

WBPA: What’s the best career decision you’ve ever made?

Barb Garst:  “My best career decision was reaching out to Woodsboro Bank when I saw the opening for a part-time Teller position. I have been able to grow in my career as the Bank itself has grown and developed into the great Bank it is today.”

WBPA: What changes do you see in the future for your industry?

Barb Garst:  “As a whole, the industry is going more digital, and in some cases losing that local and personal touch. However, at Woodsboro Bank our focus is more than ever on building relationships while we still cater to the needs/wants of the younger generations. We have the advantage that we are headquartered locally, and decisions are made locally allowing us to better support our community.”

WBPA: What advice would you give to our youth?

Barb Garst:  “Go to work with a positive attitude! Keep on learning and growing! We make mistakes and learn from our errors. Keep humor in your day.”

WBPA:  Do you have any family traditions? Which one is your favorite?

Barb Garst: “I love the Holidays! Our family spends Christmas together. We are talking around 60 family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We recently lost my Mom and Dad but continue our traditions.”
