WBPA Monthly Meeting [11/19/20]
November 19, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am
Minutes from November 19, 2020: Alan Rugh called the meeting to order
Members present: Alan Rugh, Bob Sussman, David Hawkins, Yvonne Reeder, Lori Himes, Jon Boyd, Shannon Humphreys, Mimi McLaughlin, Eli Souders, Aleena Steele, Lee Anne Little.
The following topics were discussed:
Trunk or Treat: Alan stated that Trunk or Treat was successful, although a bit rough with very limited participation compared to prior years (about 25%). There was good flow with traffic, just minimal and lots of candy leftover.
Promotional/Welcome Bags: Alan stated he had schedule conflicts in getting the bags distributed. It was suggested to divide up the bags in groups of 5 and let the membership help drop them off in December. Alan will get a list out for distribution.
Suggestion was made to invite the Town Manager to a future meeting (perhaps January). Bob offered to take care of guest speakers for January and February.
Bear the Burden Coalition: Lee Anne spoke about a new grass roots group on Facebook for small business owners. As stated on their FB Page, the official mission statement of the group reads, “Bear the Burden to ensure that all businesses, both large & small bear the same burden of restrictions and limitations imposed by local and national governments, eliminating hypocrisy to assure equal opportunity for all businesses to survive.” Alan will send an email to our membership about the group. If you would like to be invited to join, please contact Lee Anne.
Alan offered to help anyone with web help in exchange for barter services (and food, lol).
Toys for Tots: Mimi shared that McLaughlin Family Chiropractic has a donation drop box at her office. She is also offering a complimentary New Patient Exam for every person who donates a new toy by December 5. She is also hosting an open house on Sat. Dec. 5th, from 9am – noon.
Christmas Cash for Kids: Lee Anne mentioned that the annual WFMD Christmas Cash for Kids campaign takes place from Nov. 30 – Dec. 4 on WFMD am930 radio station. All donations help provide Christmas toys and necessities for children in Frederick County, and 100% of donations stay local.
In discussing the above charities, it was suggested to have the WBPA make donations on behalf of WBPA to both organizations in the amount of $200 each. Lori made a motion to have the WBPA make a donation to Christmas Cash for Kids, Mimi seconded. Bob made a motion to have the WBPA make a donation to Toys for Tots, Alan seconded. Both motions were voted on and passed.
Maryland Christmas Show: David mentioned that the show is taking place at the Frederick Fairgrounds on Nov 27-29 from 10-6.
With time left, Alan offered new members to once again introduce themselves and their business. Jon Boyd, retired Air Force, is owner/operator of Tru EZ Clean Service, offering residential carpet and upholstery cleaning. Shannon Humphreys, owner of It All Adds Up Bookkeeping and Business Solutions, offers bookkeeping and business solutions to small businesses.
Treasury Report: Yvonne stated we have $2,700 in our account, which was moved to Woodsboro Bank from ACNB (formerly FCB).
Meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be our annual holiday gathering on December 10, at 7:00 pm at A’Bloom. Masks and social distancing will be practiced. Please bring a snack to share, and drinks are BYOB.
Respectfully submitted: Lee Anne Little, Secretary
