WBPA Monthly Meeting [9/17/20]

The September 2020 meeting for the WBPA will be held on Thursday, the 17th, at Abloom. The meeting will be from 8-9am. All current members are urged to attend; however, attendance is not required. All minutes from the meeting will be posted to the event page after the event is complete, for any non-attending member.
Minutes from September 17, 2020: Alan Rugh called the meeting to order
Members present: Alan Rugh, Bob Sussman, David Hawkins, Yvonne Reeder, Lori Himes, Katie Hanna, Robin Bowers, Aleena Steele, Tammy Rowland, Mary Bolton, Angie Shepherd, Lee Anne Little.
The following topics were discussed:
Library: Robin spoke about the success of the summer lunch program that was served curbside. She stated there were over 3,000 served at no cost.
Trunk or Treat: Robin stated that Trunk or Treat will be happening on October 31 at the Library, however, the format will be a drive-thru event from 6-7:30 pm. Vendors will be allowed to set up tables (no cars as in prior years) beginning at 5:00 and goodies will be “tossed” into vehicles as they drive through the parking lot.
Christmas Plans at the Library: Robin stated there are no definitive plans at this time.
Library: Robin noted that there is a drive-through service for checking out books and stated that visitors can online for check-out service from 10-4. She also stated there are opportunities for virtual programming for businesses (ex. Educational videos). Contact the library if interested.
Petal it Forward: Lori mentioned the annual event “Petal it Forward” that will occur on Wed, Oct. 21. She has a conflict that day and asked for assistance in picking up bouquets and handing out flowers in multiples of 2 (recipient keeps one and gives one)! Let help Lori Petal it Forward.
Walk A Mile in Their Shoes: David Hawkins will be participating in this virtual event October 3-10 to benefit Heartly House. Alan will send a separate email with a link for anyone wishing to support David with donation.
Childrens’ Center of Walkersville: Alan stated that food collection for the Glade Valley Food Bank will take place Sept 21-30. Due to COVID, the children will not be collecting food in person. There will be a drop off box at the Childrens Center. Please put your name on the donations so that the children may send thank-you notes.
Glade Valley Community Services Holiday Toy Shop: Alan mentioned there will be an online set-up for donations with appointments starting October 6.
Member of the Month: Robin Bowers was selected for October.
Promotional Bags: The meeting ended with the members filling an initial 50 bags to be distributed soon to new residents of Walkersville. The Town of Walkersville will be providing Alan with a monthly list of new residents and businesses.
Meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be October 15, 2020 at 8:00 am
