Lori Himes, AIFD, an award-winning floral designer has more than 30 years of experience in the industry. A frequent presenter at regional and national conferences, she has served as a principal designer at high-profile events such as the Philadelphia Flower Show and Mardi Gras Week in New Orleans. She has completed a term on the Board of Directors of the Southern Regional Chapter of the American Institute of Floral Designers, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the highest standards of professional floral design. She is an avid gardener, a member of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce and the Walkersville Business and Professional Association. Other professional affiliations include The Society of American Florists and an AIFD certified floral Judge and Evaluator. Professional awards include 2013 Florists’ Review Picture Perfect Wedding Contest for best floral cake decorations and the Knott Best of Weddings. Lori and staff were most recently voted The Best of the Best 2015-18 and The Best of Frederick in the florist category. Abloom, Ltd. has been featured many times in Florists’ Review and ads for Oasis Floral Products.

Lori Himes AIFD, CFD loves flowers. She believes she was born a florist. Her first “designs” were jelly jars of wild flowers for her Grandma’s window sill when she was 3. She grew up on a dairy farm (yes, she milked cows) and the farm was her first source of education and creative inspiration. She played with flowers, sticks and weeds  like other girls played with Barbies. High school horticulture and FFA led her to a 35+ years professional career as a florist. Lori, along with her husband, Todd,  has owned Abloom, Ltd. since 1992.In January of 2018, Lori and Todd converted the retail business to a floral studio, concentrating her talents in the areas of weddings and events, funerals and memorials, and commercial and subscription accounts

Lori was certified and inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) in 2009, which opened doors for her that she could only dream about. Since then, Lori has presented or assisted with stage presentations at Chapter and National Symposium, Tennessee State Florist Assoc., designed for the Philadelphia Flower Show, Mardi Gras balls in New Orleans, taught workshops for kids and adults as well as florists. In 2015, Lori designed in the Society of American Florists Sylvia cup competition, placing 8th, right smack in the middle. Lori has also been certified as a judge/evaluator by the American Institute of Floral Designers, providing these services at local and industry competitions, including AIFD National Symposium. She is also the MD FFA Floriculture Superintendant.

Recently, Lori has had designs featured by Oasis for their ad campaigns. Her shop is currently highly ranked in 2 “Best of” polls for Frederick County, on The Knott and Weddingwire. Her wedding designs have been featured in the Florist’s Review  Magazine wedding issues for more than 20 years. She believes in continuing to learn and compete to constantly challenge and feed her creative soul.
