What is it?

The Walkersville Christkindlmarket is an all day event organized by the Walkersville Historical Society and sponsored by Glade United Church of Christ, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Walkersville Library and Walkersville Feed Company.

History of Christkindlmarket

A Christmas market, also known as Christkindlmarkt (literally: Christ Child Market, but the term “Christkind” usually refers to an angel-like “spirit of Christmas” rather than literally the Christ Child), Christkindlesmarkt, Christkindlimarkt, and Weihnachtsmarkt, is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent.

These markets originated in Germany, but are now held in many countries. Some in the U.S. have adapted the name to the quasi-German Christkindlmarket, substituting market for German Markt.

For Vendors

Vendors and artisans may apply for a vendor spot by obtaining, filling out and mailing the application, which is located here.

There is a vendor fee of $25.

Vendors will receive an 8’x5’ display space, a 6’ or 8’ table, and two chairs. Limited vendor spaces have access to an electrical outlet at Glade UCC & St. Paul’s. Walkersville Library has numerous spaces with access to electrical outlets. Vendors are responsible for electrical cords, display set-up, and display breakdown.

The event willl occur regardless of inclement weather. If inclement weather occurs, refunds will not be provided.

All vendor locations (listed above) will open at 10am at the start of the parade, and will remain open until 3pm.

Parade Route and Application

Anyone interested in participating in the parade has until Monday November 13th to submit your application. The application can be found on the official Walkersville Chriskindlemarket site. Further information can be found on the parade application.

The parade starts at 10am on December 2nd.
